On this night in 1886, brothers Reinhard and Max Mannesmann succeeded in producing the first pipe using the piercing rolling process they had invented in the "Inventors' Hall" - today's mechanical workshop of Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes Deutschland GmbH - just 100 metres away.
